Natural Hair Styling License
People who change style hair need a license. This license is from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS).
This license is for a person. Businesses need a separate Appearance Enhancement License.
This license allows a person to shampoo, arrange, cut, shave, twist, weave, or braid hair. The license allows techniques that cause tension on hair roots. These include some types of braiding, weaving, and extending hair. For these techniques, a licensed person must complete a course.
To get this license, a person must pass a test. A person can get a temporary license before the test. People with five years of experience may not need to take a test.
New regulations are in place to protect workers. Read "Nail Salons Safety: What You Need to Know" for more information.
