People who practice nail or hair styling, waxing, and beauty treatment need a Cosmetology License. This license comes from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS).
Applicants must meet education and experience requirements and pass an exam. Those who have a license in some other states can have their license endorsed in New York.
New regulations are in place to protect workers. Read "Nail Salons-Important Information" and "Nail Salon Safety - What You Need To Know" for more information. Both are linked under "Additional Resources." Businesses that do not follow these laws will be punished.
